Episode Zero: Janny’s Biography

Hi everyone!

Welcome to my podcast!

I’d like to start off by giving you guys a little background and introduction as to who I am and why I am starting a podcast. So let’s start with the basics:

My name is Janny Nguyen.

I am a Vietnamese-American 30 year old woman from Lawndale, CA who has always aspired to be a positive influence to everyone around me.

I grew up in a very traditional vietnamese household where I was taught to always abide by my religious and cultural standards.

However, growing up here in America, I had to learn to assimilate into the social norms and culture of the “American society”.

As a child, I felt like I had to live up to two livelihoods:

one being the obedient traditional vietnamese good daughter and sister at home,

while two, learning to expand my knowledge and education at school to better my life for the legacy of my future and family.

I grew up in a first generation Vietnamese and buddhist household with a huge family of 7 sisters and 1 brother. You heard that right, 7 sisters and 1 brother. And yes, we all had the same parents. LOL

During the weekdays I would be at school learning English and furthering my education and on Sunday’s I would be at temple and learning Vietnamese.

I went to elementary school, middle, school, and highschool all in the south bay area (310) holla!

I was a bookworm in my school days, but always felt cool enough to hang with the popular kids in school too ;) I went on to graduate at UCSB with B of A in sociology, emphasis in bio in 2013.

WHY am I telling you so much about my upbringing?

b/c now more than ever I feel like it’s important to get back to the basics of getting to know one another. With all the [social] media in this time and generation, we are all constantly judged by who we are just with a click of a video or by looking at a filtered/photoshopped picture of what that person wants us to believe.

But what is it about them that makes them who they are? Or you, YOU?

For me, it’s how I show the world who and what is important in my life.

When I find myself coming across pictures or videos and having these type of thoughts, I can’t help but wonder:

Where are your roots?

Where did you and your family come from?

What stories and lessons were you taught as a child?

Who did you learn from the most?

What hardships or difficulties did you have growing up and how did you decide who to listen to?

Did you ever suffer a loss of a family or friend? Did you seek help? Counseling?

I tend to have these thoughts bc I am generally a very curious person and when I have the time to really get to know someone, I genuinely dive in and become fascinated with their life story.

I do this because I feel that one of the most important things in life is to have strong relationships with the people around you, and the people you want to have/surround yourself with. Bc this builds who you are and tells people what is important in your life. These relationships propel you to cultivate your livelihood and could influence your future. The way you carry yourself in this world is/should be important for you to connect with and build a happy life.

If you’re into astrology, I’m a Leo. If not, no worries, we’ll dive into that sometime later.

But to make sense of what I'm about to say, most Leo’s have traits of being bold, proud, and have a knack for making people feel better when they’re not feeling or at their best--and I just feel like this is my calling. I am just a very honest, open, and genuine listener who wants to help people find and navigate peace and happiness into their world. Another trait is that it is also important for Leo’s that we do something that is very meaningful to us and to the people around us.

Idk why, but I didn’t realize how my friends, family, and the people I know always tell me that I am very easy to talk/vent to; that I am everyone’s biggest cheerleader and could offer so much support for those who feel like they don’t have someone to hold their hand as they grow and push through the daily struggles and hardships our current world.

Everytime I meet someone new, I’m always wondering what's going on in their world and how I could be of any help to them. I know I can’t do this for every single person I meet; but I just naturally like to challenge myself with how I can help fix problems for people to make them live happily--especially if I know them personally and care deeply about them.

As I turn onto the next chapters of my life, I often wonder--actually, I excessively overthink about my future. What’s the next step? What should I do next? How can I be smart about working and/or creating a career where I'll be 100% happy and fulfilled with what I’m doing in my life.

So, as a way for me to get there, I decided to make this podcast to document and share my life journey by becoming a source of inspiration, courage, self-love, respect, and be an idol especially for the youth in this time and generation through the lens of the different chapters in my life that have affected and sculpted who I am today. I am also making this podcast to discuss topics that are really important in my life; like my vietnamese heritage, mental and health wellness, stresses of the pandemic, etc.

I hope that listening in on my life experiences and stories can help alleviate any stress, pain, or unwanted feelings that may be related to things that happen in your life. Or, maybe the topics being discussed can provide different perspectives or clarity to things you need answers to.

Maybe you’ve had to go through some of the things I’ve been through.

Did you deal with them the same way? What did you do differently?

Are you happy with the result of what happened?

Maybe you’ll laugh, cry, be surprised, or find truth/inspiration after hearing my stories, but whatever the reason may be, I am happy and glad to be here for anyone who needs a safe space or just wanting some company after a long day of work or daily stresses of life.

Maybe you just need a bedtime story or need to take a lunch break from work and wanna get out of the office / home to unwind and have some time and space to yourself.

Either way, I’d like to invite you to listen in the hopes that it can help you find inspiration, navigate through your life, and maybe help

create your footprint in this world.

BUT How did I even get to this point? The fucken pandemic! Damn COVID-19 got us good.

We were all stuck at home forced to do nothing while the world / our country, actually, is tearing each other to pieces. All the hate and despair going on is just terrible. We need to stop with all the negative bullshit and move forward together.

Now I know everyone is allowed to have their own opinion and say what they want, go on rants, but at the end of the day, it's WHAT you do and HOW YOU can influence in a positive way to live your best life.

I’m saying this because my podcasts will be very raw, transparent, honest, and hopefully influential to help push courage, strength, self-love and respect for yourself and those around you.

Everyone goes through trials and tribulations through different chapters in their life.

It’s important to acknowledge them, accept what happened, and take responsibility for our life and future. You know, growing means there will be pain, but they’ll be gains too--if you allow and welcome them in. Let's establish ourselves and create connections through our intersectionality.

So throughout my podcast, I'll be sharing about my journey as an entrepreneur, stories of my childhood, hosting my family and friends to help share these stories, and talk about the connections and relationships with the people who are still active and inactive in my life, and of course, talk about any topics you guys might want to explore.

I’m also super into astrology and spiritual thangs, so I’ll be ending each of my podcasts with a self-mediation passage/quote, read oracle card(s) or share properties of stones and minerals that I find fascinating that may or may not pertain to the story/topic of that podcast.

I hope that this brief intro gets you pumped for what I have stored for my first episode of: “name of podcast”. Can’t wait to share my first episode with you! Speaking of which; would you guys like to hear about where I’m at now to start? Like would you rather get to know who I am now, and see how my life cultivated in this fruition? Or would you like to know Janny from the get go! Like from the beginning of little baby Janny to adulthood? LMK!
